Dowry System in India

By seeing this the Government of India enacted the "Dowry Prohibition Act" on May 1, 1961 to prevent the giving or receiving of Dowry. If the death of bride occurs within the 7 years of marriage by burning or suicide, it will be considered the case of Dowry. The strict action will be taken against the Groom and groom's family. Prior to 1956, the daughter were having no legal rights on his family's wealth. In 1956, Indian government gave equal rights to both son and daughter on family's wealth among the Hindu, Sikh and Jain Families.

Even after implementing this act, some people from the rural areas or even from the urban areas give and take dowry in the name of the tradition. They believe that they are following the traditions which are running from their forefathers. There are many death of brides occurs but there is no complain against them due to the lack of prospectus, as they believe who will give justice to them. In 2020, dowry death cases was reported nearly 7000 which was gradually decreased from 8500 in 2014.

Consequences of Dowry Prohibition Act

As each coin has two sides, this law has two sides. One side it protects the woman from these dowry situation. And in the second side there is fake dowry cases against groom for the sake of allimony. Nowadays, there is growing criticism, as the laws are often being misused. If bride did not want to live with her husband, she accused fake dowry cases on husband , put her in prison and destroy his life in seconds. If 1000 cases are filed of dowry. More than 500 will be the fake dowry cases. As a citizen of India, why the men can't stand on their own feet and feed his wife and his parents. And for woman don't put fake cases on anyone don't destroy the life of others for the sake of money. 

We 'as the residents of India, walking towards the new thousand years, ought to likewise take a stab at the suspension of this evil practice. Dowry is a dark spot on the bright face of the country. Yet, it is impossible away by the older individuals. Just the more youthful age can do it.
